Vampyr - Pandora's Box Quest & Secret Vault Puzzle Walkthrough

Image
This is a walkthrough post for "Pandora's Box", a fascinating and complicated quest in Vampyr . It spans through several main missions and is connected with a subsequent brilliant puzzle that opens a secret vault which, in turn, rewards you with a cool weapon, a special collectible and an achievement. Main mission "Unnatural Selection" : after you find your way via the sewers to reach the Temple Church area but before you go to meet Aloysius Dawson, run around the perimeter of the church to locate an underground passage. At the end of this passage, an Indian fortune teller, Usher Talltree, will be sitting surrounded by curios, doing his magic. Talk to him to get one important hint for Aloysius Dawson, and also have him offer you his quest, Pandora's Box, to find his stolen notebook. If you have enough money, you can ask him to "read the cards" and every time you do this, he will give you hints on several residents. I skipped this part, since it is

Assassin's Creed: Syndicate - Basic Playthrough Challenge (New Game, 100% Memories)

I saw this playthrough as some sort of challenge because I wanted to check how leveling up works in this beautiful game when you complete only the main story and the activities given by the three principal associates (Abberline, Clara and Henry). This is very different from my previous (Selective) playthrough because in that one I did some extra stuff (like a few secondary missions and the activities given by Topping and Wynert) but I did not include all of them in the finalized videos. In this Basic Playthrough Challenge, I only play the main story set in Victorian London (I did not include the modern day segments simply in order to focus on my task), and complete just the activities offered by Frederick Abberline (Bounty Hunts), Henry Green (Templar Hunts and Gang Strongholds) and Clara O'Dea (Child Liberations), as well as the Gang Wars.

It turned out it was a bit of a challenge indeed, because following that route, you level up only by completing the memories in a sequence while also taking care to conquest a borough that has a matching level (ie, while playing Sequence 5, I did the activities needed to conquest Southwark). Because the sequences are more than the available boroughs, I had to split the conquest of the City of London between two sequences, Sequence 6 and Sequence 7. That specific borough is quite big anyway, and has several activities, so the combination was rather convenient. As far as collectibles are concerned, I only went for the locked chests, but ignoring those which contain items that I was sure I wasn't going to need.

Ignoring the extra activities has several downsides, the most crucial being never having enough money or materials to craft stuff, which means that you have to be very careful while deciding on which arsenal pieces and / or upgrades to invest. You also miss getting those unique items that are required for crafting weapons and upgrades. Specifically, since I did not do Wynert's activities, I was not rewarded with the item that is necessary for the Lv.2 upgrade of the Voltaic Bomb. This was somewhat frustrating, thankfully only in one situation, where you are tasked to kill a Templar with a Voltaic Bomb. I usually hit that specific Templar until she has only a tiny bit of health left, then throw a Voltaic Bomb on her. This time though this did not work, because one Voltaic Bomb not fully upgraded was not enough to kill her, but left her with just a line of her life, at which point Jacob would automatically execute her with a handgun, therefore cancelling the objective of the mission. So I had to come up with a different strategy to achieve the task. Another downside is that you do not have access to extra weapons, namely the super powerful handgun offered by Ned, or the cool Cane Swords given by Robert Topping.

But overall it is a great experience, which also gives you the chance to see and appreciate the difficulty of the game, since most of the times you are called to face enemies that are stronger than your character. While in Sequence 9, you should be Level 9 anyway, and at the end of the main story you are given just enough skill points to get to Level 10. This practically means that you do not need those super extra strong weapons (The Mars or the World's Greatest Cane Sword), at least not for the playthrough itself, since those are Level 10 and you only reach that level upon finishing the main story and the borough conquests.
