Resident Evil 7 - Madhouse Playthrough

A playthrough of Resident Evil 7 in Madhouse difficulty level. Unlike previous Resident Evil games, the seventh installment is a first person shooter, but this is not its only difference from the other titles of the saga. The element of horror is still here, only now it is combined with the old-school thriller feel, similar to that of films like The Evil Dead or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to which it nods many times.

I loved this game despite the controversy, but I have one complaint to make. It highest difficulty level is like a whole new experience, practically cancelling any practice you may have gone through by playing the Easy and Normal modes. I understand that Madhouse is specifically designed to offer a new level of hardcore gaming, but then what is the point of trying to learn stuff in Normal, for instance, if everything is going to be different when it comes to Madhouse. Having stronger enemies, making the character lose health more easily, even getting him insta-killed by random hits, finding less ammo and health items, all this is not only absolutely legit but also welcome. This is exactly the point of a high difficulty level. But this is also exactly why you are supposed to be given the chance to hone your skills by practicing in a standard difficulty, so that you can then be able to handle a much tougher version of the game.

Here what happens, however, is that the game feels and, in fact, is different in Madhouse: items are found elsewhere, tough enemies that normally appear later in the story, may now jump on you during the first half hour. And this isn't only about unneeded difficulty. It is also about lack of consistency. Certain enemies that are hidden in the basement are limited to that section of the house at the beginning, when things are still unveiled and you are in the process of uncovering the secrets of the Baker family. Only much later, when the situation becomes even worse, do those enemies invade the upper parts of the house, because at that point there is noone to control them. This is how the story goes, and it has a logic behind it. In Madhouse this logic goes down the drain, as said enemies can be found strolling around the house even before you are supposed to meet them for the first time, therefore ruining the whole point of suspense and gradual revelation.

And something else. It is probably insignificant, but it annoys me that we can never have a proper look at the protagonist. We can see Ethan vaguely close to the end via a hallucination, and also a slice of his face can be spotted through the cocoon in which Eveline traps him on the ship; but these are both scripted events, as the model itself is actually headless. I know this kind of first person design is used by many games (like Outlast) but I like to know that the character I play with actually has a head.

In this playthrough, I am using the Albert-01R handgun and the circular saw as basic weapons, alongside the others that I find during gameplay. All cutscenes are included.

Resident Evil 4 HD Professional New Game No Merchant Challenge

A playthrough of Resident Evil 4 on Professional difficulty, New Game, where I am totally ignoring the Merchant, therefore my inventory is limited to what I have and what I collect on the way and the weapons that I use (default Handgun, free Shotgun and free Broken Butterfly) don't get any upgrades.

This was an insane challenge which at many instances I thought I wouldn't be able to complete, but I made it. There are certain fights, like the whole U3 sequence, which are quite unforgiving, but even so things turned out better than I expected. Leon is easily one of the best characters to play with, something that, I guess, has to do with his impeccable design.

Resident Evil Revelations 2 - No Escape Playthrough

Playthrough of Resident Evil Revelations 2 in No Escape difficulty level, the hardest mode of the game, where enemies are more aggressive and your character is more vulnerable and prone to an early death.

The game's mechanics are not so optimized for such a challenging mode; at least how I experienced it. It either makes you unload all your ammo on certain enemies until they are finally down, or force you to run past them, most of the times ending up being zombie food. Thankfully I thought about taking advantage of the partner system, which allows the main character's partners (Moira and Natalia) to move more freely, as they can rarely die even if they are heavily wounded as long as they have a little space to take a breath and auto-heal.

Cutscenes are also included.

Deus Ex Human Revolution (Director's Cut): Give Me Deus Ex - New Game Playthrough

Playthrough of Deus Ex Human Revolution (Director's Cut) on Give Me Deus Ex (Hard) difficulty, starting a new game without previous augmentations. This is the Director's Cut version, so some things may be different from the original one, and the Missing Link DLC is integrated in the main game.

An atmospheric, stunning game with futuristic graphics set on a dystopic future where the implementation of technology in every day life has done miracles but has also caused unsurpassable  problems. Adam, the protagonist, was augmented with hi-tech prosthetic body parts against his will, after an attack that would have cost him his life. Now he is trying to find his place in a new society the members of which see him as a threat due to his superhuman abilities, while under his imposing appearance he is more human than most of them.

Miasmata - Extended Playthrough

Extended playthrough of Miasmata, a wonderful game by indie developers IonFX. It includes visiting most of the areas, finding several plants and creating various tonics and medicines.

Despite its peaceful pace, Miasmata offers a quite intense gaming experience, both with the atmosphere it creates combining gorgeous environments, beautiful music and a compelling story. We play as a mysterious protagonist who may or may not be whom he thinks he is, as he is stranded on a paradise-like island, and is looking for natural resources that are thought to produce a cure for a plague that has stricken humanity.

Resident Evil HD Remaster: Hard Difficulty Playthrough

Playthrough of REHD with both Chris and Jill, in Hard difficulty setting. I save all characters and get the good ending in both scenarios. I am mainly using the Infinite Samurai Edge for everything, except the final boss fight.

I always have an issue with games that offer limited inventory space, not because I cannot store enough items, but because I am very bad when it comes to item management. This is the main (if not the only) reason why I tend to resort to an infinite ammo handgun when there is one available. Doing so, leaves space for holding other items, as well as ammo for other weapons when you use them.

The playthrough features both Chris and Jill scenarios and includes all cutscenes.

Resident Evil 4 UHD - Professional - New Game - No Damage Playthrough

Playthrough of Resident Evil 4 UHD on Professional difficulty, New Game. In this playthrough, I am using the default Handgun plus whatever Leon finds in the way (Shotgun & Broken Butterfly) and I buy only the TMP and the simple Rifle. I regularly upgrade all the weapons in the process. I use just the free Launcher and the Special Launcher (I don't buy any other RL).

RE4 is by far my favorite game for this kind of challenges as the design of both its gameplay and item drop is exemplary. It Professional difficutly, the hardest mode it offers, achieves a perfect balance between extreme challenge and pure fun. Of course it requires lots of practice, but it is so gamer-friendly that after some runs it practically leads you to the best possible strategy.

The playthrough includes all cutscenes.

Tomb Raider Legend: Hard Difficulty (Tomb Raider) Playthrough

A playthrough of Tomb Raider Legend in the hardest difficulty setting (Tomb Raider). The only real difference of this difficulty level with the lower modes is the amount of health that Lara loses with every hit. This doesn't add anything to the action, but it makes gameplay somewhat more challenging. This playthrough is on Replay Level mode, so no rewards here.

Tomb Raider Legend belongs to the new era of the Lara Croft saga - or better, the mid era. It is a fast, fiesty, humorous and rich game which maybe didn't get the appreciation it deserved. It is one of my favorites of the series, although I am one of those fans who loved the classics. As I mentioned above, difficulty levels do not really make that big a difference, especially if you are an experienced gamer and have played more challenging games. Still, it is very entertaining, and always fun to play in the hardest level.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X Playthrough

A playthrough of Resident Evil: Code Veronica X, split in 7 parts. It is the PS2 version played on PC through PCSX2 emulator. Includes all cutscenes and FMV's. A classic Resident Evil adventure, one of the best of the series, Code Veronica was released back in 2000 but still feels fresh and fascinating.

Code Veronica does not feature different difficulty levels in the main game, its setting being somewhere between a standard "Normal" difficulty and a slightly "Hard" one - especially in the case of boss fights. You play as Claire Redfield for the first half and as Chris Redfield for most of the second part.

Resident Evil HD Remaster: Real Survival Playthrough (Jill Valentine)

Playthrough of Resident Evil HD Remaster, on Real Survival mode, with Jill Valentine. Real Survival is an extra difficulty mode where you play by default on Hard level, with less ammo and health items provided, with auto aim disabled and item boxes that are not connected.

I chose to play this challenge with Jill because she has slightly more inventory space compared to Chris, therefore she can keep more items instead of storing them away in an item box. I tried to limit the item boxes I could use, so that it would be easier to backtrack and get something from the ones I chose to use. It seemed like an impossible challenge at first, but as it turned out it was quite entertaining and definitely doable. I guess it is far more challenging with Chris, but still possible.
